Tamar Safety offer a range of courses to suit your business and individual needs. Our in-house and public courses are delivered in a relaxed, friendly and engaging atmosphere with the content made specific to each delegate to maximise their knowledge and understanding.
We offer public and private IOSH accredited courses, as well as our own range of Tamar Safety courses and the option to have your own tailored course written and delivered for you.

Where possible we prefer to teach private in-house courses at the client's venue to make the training experience more immersive and personable to the delegates. We also offer a range of alternative venues for our public courses, or if an in-house venue is not available.
Course fees
IOSH Managing Safely courses are charged by the delegate for public courses, or by proposal for private bookings.
Tamar Safety courses (private only for up to 12 delegates) are priced as below:
Whole day (8 hours) ÂŁ600 (online ÂŁ475)
Half day (4 hours) ÂŁ375 (online ÂŁ300)
Awareness / Module (2 hours) ÂŁ250 (online ÂŁ200)
Multiple sessions can be arranged to take advantage of a bundle offer, e.g. 2 back-to-back half-day sessions charged at ÂŁ600 instead of ÂŁ750.
Where applicable, reasonable expenses will be applied for distance travelled, food, overnight stays and venue hire (if not hosted at the client's facilities) in addition to the above course fees.
Tailored courses are priced individually on proposal. The total cost will be inclusive of course build time, resources, expenses and course delivery time.Â

All IOSH courses are delivered by an experienced industry professional and are accredited with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health as a registered Approved Training Provider. On successful completion of IOSH courses delegates will receive an IOSH certificate of achievement.

Abrasive Wheels Mounter's Course (half day)

This practical session based on the HSE's HSG17 Safety in the use of abrasive wheels combines theory, tutor-led displays, legislation and a workshop tour (where permissible) to highlight the safe use of handheld, pedestal and bench-mounted abrasive wheels.

Accident Investigation Awareness (2 hours)

This course offers an introduction to accident investigation using guidance as set out in the HSE's HSG245 Investigating accidents and incidents. Through a collection of case studies and tutor-led direction, delegates will gain an understanding of the benefits and requirements of accident investigation and simple root cause analysis methods. This course is aimed at delegates that may be involved in small to medium sized investigations.

This course offers an advanced insight into accident investigation using guidance as set out in the HSE's HSG245 Investigating accidents and incidents. Through a collection of case studies and tutor-led direction, delegates will gain an understanding of the benefits and requirements of accident investigation and different types root cause analysis methods - culminating in a detailed investigation exercise. This course is aimed at delegates that may be involved in medium to high level investigations and could also have a responsibility to report incidents under Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013 to the HSE.
Asbestos Awareness (half day)

Workplace exposure to asbestos fibres continues to be one of the most prolific contributors to occupational lung disease deaths in the UK, exceeding 5,000 deaths annually. Despite the use of asbestos products being banned in 1999 in the UK, the vast majority of products installed during the 20th Century are still in place, putting persons of various trades and ages at risk of accidental exposure.
This course is intended to give workers and supervisors the information they need to avoid work that may disturb asbestos during any normal work which could disturb the fabric of a building or item that might contain asbestos. Delivery can take place in the classroom or online and includes a brief multiple choice assessment to solidify understanding of the topic.
This course does not prepare persons to carry out work with asbestos containing materials (ACMs), further training is required and Tamar Safety can recommend competent training providers to support this.
COSHH Awareness (half day)

This course offers an introduction to COSHH based on the guidance as set out in the HSE's INDG136 A brief guide to COSHH. Through a collection of case studies and tutor-led direction delegates will gain an understanding of the variety of substances that come under COSHH, their hazardous effects to health, the application of control measures, and the safe storage, handling and use of substances.
COSHH Assessment Workshop (1 day)

This advanced COSHH course is based on the guidance set out in the HSE's L5 COSHH Approved Code of Practice and HSG97 A step by step guide to COSHH assessment. Delegates will gain an in-depth knowledge of the components and requirements of completing a suitable and sufficient COSHH assessment through case studies, tutor-led direction, and culminating in a COSHH assessment exercise made relevant to their operations.
Contractor Management Workshop (half day)

This course provides an understanding of the complexities and compliance requirements of managing contractors in the workplace, as set out in the HSE's HSG159 Managing contractors. Through a collection of case studies and tutor-led direction delegates will gain a deeper understanding of contractor management to include planning works, choosing and monitoring contractors, and assessing and reviewing works.
Controlling Noise and Vibration (half day)

This course is designed to give an insight into recognised control methods for eliminating, assessing and reducing sources of noise and vibration in the workplace in accordance with legislation, Approved Codes of Practice and guidance documents. Delegates will gain an understanding of HSE 'ready reckoners', exposure calculators, and the use of simple sampling methods to establish if further expert support is required in either or both fields. This course is aimed at supervisors, managers, assessors and H&S managers.
DSE Assessment Workshop (half day)

This course is aimed at individuals tasked with completing initial or follow-up assessments on identified DSE users in-line with recognised guidance and checklists provided by the HSE. Delegates will develop an understanding of the risks to health as a result of poor ergonomics or workstation setup and learn corrective actions to address common DSE problems that can support DSE users prior to engaging with expert support.

This course is aimed at those responsible for managing and maintaining estates in educational settings, such as schools, nurseries, colleges and universities and suitable for estates managers, operations managers and senior leaders. The course includes our asbestos awareness course, which is then expanded and developed to give a greater insight and understanding of surveys, registers and management plans which is delivered in-line with DfE Good Estates Management for Schools (GEMS) guidance.

This course is aimed at those responsible for managing and maintaining estates in educational settings, such as schools, nurseries, colleges and universities and suitable for estates managers, operations managers and senior leaders. The course combines the DfE's Good Estates Management in Schools (GEMS) guidance with HSE, RoSPA and Government guidance on estates and facilities management. Course content includes hazards and controls associated with fire, asbestos, legionella and RAAC. Delegates will receive a template checklist document to use at their sites to support their operations.

This advanced course is aimed at fire safety managers, personnel with fire safety responsibilities, or for those developing their career in fire safety management in education settings including schools, nurseries, colleges and universities. The course is split into 2 distinct days. Day 1 is theory-based, using a range of case studies, tutor-led direction and activities focusing on fire legislation, guidance, duties and human behaviours. Day 2 is delivered through practical and workshop activities, giving delegates the opportunity to put their knowledge and theory into action. Throughout the course, delegates will develop an understanding of and have the ability to create a fire safety policy and strategy, checklists for fire safety checks, and fire warden actions to support evacuation plans.
This 2-day course can also be used as introduction in preparation for a fire risk assessor course or the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety.

This introductory course can be used as annual training or an induction as it covers a broad range of topics including legal duties, identifying hazards, controlling risks, reporting incidents, emergency procedures and sector-specific topics. The course is delivered through a combination of tutor-led delivery, case studies and activities, and is aimed at all levels of staff from curriculum, pastoral and support services.
Education: H&S for Education Leaders (1 day or 4 x 2-hour modules)

Drawing on years of experience in the sector holding roles as a Chair of Governors, School Business Manager, H&S Manager and a vocational tutor in settings from EYFS to HE, MATs, Independent Schools, Studio Schools and other provisions makes Tamar Safety perfectly placed to deliver H&S training that understands the nuances and pressures of educational establishments. This course is aimed at senior roles, such as Trust Executives, Headteachers and SLT members. The course is delivered through a combination of tutor-led delivery, case studies and activities to cover legal duties, safety culture, policy and procedure, Good Estates Management in Schools (GEMS) and learning outside the classroom.
Fire Extinguisher Training (2 hours)

This short course is aimed at workers that are required to complete internal fire extinguisher checks and those who might potentially discharge an extinguisher in response to tackling a fire. Delegates will learn about the different types of extinguisher, their safe use and the classes of fire they can and cannot be used on. A practical session of discharging different types of fire extinguisher is included in this course, which will require coordination in advance at venues to ensure a safe area is provided.
This course can run as a standalone course or be combined with the Fire Safety Awareness and Fire Warden courses for an additional fee of ÂŁ250.Â

Fire Safety in High Rise Buildings (1 day)

This specialist course focuses on recent pieces of legislation including the Fire Safety Act 2021, the Building Safety Act 2022 and the specific requirements of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022. Delegates working in, or responsible for, all residential buildings will benefit from this course, as the new legislation has elements that is enforceable in any residential building with 2 or more dwellings and shared communal space, right through to 18m+ in height.

Fire Warden (1 day)

This general course gives delegates a more detailed introduction to fire safety than our Fire Safety Awareness course and focuses on the role of the fire warden applicable to all workplaces. As Fire Wardens will often be used to complete routine internal checks on fire safety items such as fire extinguishers, fire doors and emergency lighting, an introduction to common fire precaution and protection measures is also included in this course.
When booked as a private course, tutors will be happy to deliver localised instruction within the course with prior preparation.
Food Hygiene Level 2 (2 hours)

All persons involved in food handling must have appropriate training to their role and setting to ensure the correct standards of food hygiene are being observed to protect themselves and others. Delegates will gain an understanding of common food hygiene topics, including food poisoning, personal hygiene, contamination and food preparation. This approved course is delivered by our registration with Trainer Courses Ltd as a registered trainer and approved provider. Tamar Safety are also members of the Association of Healthcare Trainers.

The course is delivered through a combination of tutor-led delivery, case studies and activities, and is aimed at all levels of staff within an organisation.
H&S in the Engineering Workshop (1 day)

This course can be delivered in a variety of engineering and manufacturing workplaces, delivered as an introduction or a refresher session. Through a mixture of case studies, tutor-led direction and practical sessions in the company setting, delegates will gain an understanding of current best practices and their application in the workshop in-line with current HSE and industry guidance.
Ladder and Steps Use and Inspection (half day)

This course can be used as an introduction or refresher and is based on the guidance as set out in the joint HSE and Ladder Association document LA455 Safe use of ladders and stepladders (and associated documents). Through a collection of case studies and tutor-led direction delegates will gain an understanding of the safe use, selection and inspection of ladders and stepladders that can be easily applied to their own workplace.
Manual Handling (half day)

Through a collection of case studies and tutor-led direction delegates will gain an understanding of the safe use of manual handling techniques and the key requirements for carrying out a simple manual handling risk assessment.
Manual Handling Assessment Workshop (1 day)

This course is aimed at Manual Handling assessors, supervisors, managers and H&S professionals that are required to complete a more in-depth Manual Handling Operations risk assessment as set-out in the Approved Code of Practice L23, or other advance mechanism such as the MAC, ART and RAPP tools.
Metalworking Fluids: Safe Use and Management (half day)
This course can be delivered as an introduction or a refresher on the topic and is aimed at workshop operatives and management for equipment where coolant ands lubricants are used in metalworking processes. Through a combination of classroom-based activities and workshop practical delegates will gain an understanding of the safe use, handling and disposal of metalworking fluids in-line with HSE and UKLA guidance.
Office H&S Awareness (2 hours)

This course provides a general awareness into typical health and safety hazards in an office environment to enable staff and managers an understanding of how to control them and minimise their risk. This course is best delivered at a client's venue to allow for a localised experience, but can also be delivered at a shared venue of online delivery.
Permit to Work Systems (half day)

This course is aimed at managers, supervisors and those managing or operating under a permit to work system used for their own operations and/or the operations of contractors on their site(s). Through a combination of case studies, tutor-led direction and practical workshop delegates will gain an understanding of the key components of a permit to work and have the opportunity to develop their own system and forms in-line with current HSE and industry guidance.
Representatives of Employee Safety - RoES (1 day)

This course is aimed at staff currently, or due to become, a Representative of Employee Safety (RoES) with functions as recognised under the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996. Through a combination of case studies, tutor-led direction and activities delegates will gain an understanding of the functions of a RoES. This course is best delivered at a client's venue to facilitate site inspection activities, but can be delivered in an alternative venue or online.
Risk Assessment Awareness (half day)

This course can be used as an introduction to the process of writing risk assessments for those that work under them or approve them, or as a refresher for those that currently write assessments and have completed recognised courses, such as IOSH Managing Safely. This course is not suitable for delegates to learn how to write risk assessments for the first time, the 1-day workshop is more appropriate.
Risk Assessment Workshop (1 day)

This course is aimed at those responsible for writing risk assessments in their workplace in a variety of settings. Although the course will focus on general risk assessing, the principles taught can be applicable to a variety of other forms of assessment with adaptation. Through a combination of case studies, activities, tutor-led direction and practical workshop delegates will gain a deeper understanding of the practical application of the HSE-recognised risk assessment process for how to complete suitable and sufficient documents that are easy to understand and implement.
Sharps Awareness (2 hours)

This course is suited to staff that could potentially come into contact with needles in their routine work, such as cleaners and support workers. The course covers a range of topics including blood borne viruses, indicators of drug use and safe disposal of found needles. When delivered in person the course includes a practical session for practicing the safe collection and disposal of needles.
Toolbox Talk Writing and Delivery (half day)

This course is suited to Managers and Supervisors that can be called upon to write and deliver internal toolbox talks (TBT) to their colleagues and contractors. During the course delegates will explore the techniques and information sources available to support them in writing their own TBT, before working on practical delivery methods in a group workshop setting. Delegates will receive a TBT template, but are encouraged to bring existing in-house documents to use in the session if available.
Woodworking Machinery Safety (half day)

This course can be used as an introduction to, or refresher on, the safe working practices on and in the presence of woodworking machinery in-line with the HSE's Approved Code of Practice L114 Safe use of woodworking machinery. Through a combination of case studies, tutor-led direction and workshop assessment delegates will focus on the range of hazards present and enhance their understanding alongside in-house training and supervision.
Due to the practical element of this course, it is not available for online delivery.
Work at Height Awareness (2 hours)

This course can be used as an introduction or refresher on the principles of safe working at height using a range of access equipment and following the work at height hierarchy as set out in legislation and HSE guidance.

We have extensive experience in creating tailored courses written to proposal to suit your specific needs, having written packages for AI research labs, large rail projects, educational Trusts, housing associations and manufacturing companies. Existing Tamar Safety courses can be adapted to include your own images, documents and procedures or, if you prefer, an exclusive 'from scratch' package. If its something we can deliver, you get the course written and delivered your way.
All tailored courses have the ability to be accredited and receive a certificate through recognised bodies, such as IOSH and CPD, at an additional fee. For all other tailored courses delegates will receive a Tamar Safety Certificate of Attendance
